The new personalization features are currently rolling out to desktop users of Chrome. To access the new side panel, open a new tab in Chrome and click the “Customize Chrome” icon in the bottom right corner.
New Side Panel
The new side panel allows users to experiment with different colors, themes, and backgrounds. To change the color of the browser, click the “Color” tab and select a new color from the palette. To change the theme of the browser, click the “Theme” tab and select a new theme from the list. To change the background image of the browser, click the “Background” tab and select a new image from the gallery.
New Background Images
The new background images collection includes images from a variety of locations and heritages. To view the new background images, click the “Background” tab in the side panel and select the “Collections” tab. The collections are sorted by location and heritage.
If you have trouble picking just one image, you can enjoy a rotating background by clicking on any theme collection and turning on the “Refresh daily” toggle.
Distinct Backgrounds for Profiles
If you use Profiles to keep your work and personal accounts separate, try giving each Profile a distinct background and color to differentiate between them.
